CALLBACKS: Sunday, March 7 at the director’s request.
AUDITION REQUIREMENTS Please prepare 32 bars of an up-tempo rock/pop/gospel song with sheet music. It does not have to be from the show but if you are interested in a particular role then it would be wise to be familiar with one of that character's songs, as you may be asked to sing further. We will not allow songs to be performed a cappella so please bring either sheet music or an instrumental CD (without background vocals). Please bring a current photo. Must be over 18 to audition. Auditions will begin at 6p on Friday and we will take 10 people an hour until 10pm. Auditions will begin at 9a on Saturday and we will take 10 people an hour from 9a-11a and 1p-5p.
Please email us your first-choice 3-hour time slots as well as your email address and phone number. You will receive an email confirmation that you will be required to bring with you to the audition. You will not be seen outside of your audition time.
CHARACTER BREAKDOWN ROGER DAVIS: Male, 20s early 30s; sexy, young, good-looking leader of a rock band; a brooding rock star but with a gentle side; he has a natural charisma and mystery; very simple presence; former junkie; rough round the edges; a tortured soul; a fighter who has very little fight left; rock and roll grunge voice like Eddie Vedder or Kurt Cobain, lead guitar experience a plus. B2-A4 (Rock Tenor)
MARK COHEN: Male, early late 20s; Jewish; under-funded, underground filmmaker; likable but occasionally high strung; obsessive, smart, hip and romantic; very casual narrator of the show, but with a sense of humor and fun; must also have the ability to grasp the show's internal conflicts. C#3 - G4 (Tenor)
TOM COLLINS: Male, mid 20s mid 30s; bluesy voice; very soulful; gorgeous R & B or gospel baritone; PhD of the group; philosopher, teacher, anarchist and AIDS activist; great open personality; gay; a large man with a huge heart; a warm maturity; is very committed to his friends. F#2 - A4 (Bari-Tenor)
BENJAMIN COFFIN III: Male, 20s early 30s; can handle pop ballads; a striver, up from the projects to the Ivy League; wants to be the next Quincy Jones; cyber entrepreneur/landlord who stops at nothing to get what he wants, be it women, money or real estate; knocks down buildings and friendship on the way to success; motivated by money at the risk of angering his friends; very smooth, stylish and extremely good-looking; uses charm to get what he wants; married up; way down deep there is a heart; excellent actor. Eb3 - F4 (Baritone/Second Tenor)
MAUREEN JOHNSON: Female, 20s early 30s; young, spunky soul singer with a strong mix/belt; innocent sexiness which attracts the interest of both sexes; really quirky and funny; bisexual East Village performance artist. C4 - F5 (Soprano Belt)
MIMI MARQUEZ: Female, early 20s late 20s; Latina; raw rock and roll voice with a huge belt; must be extremely sexy and potentially dangerous fun; an optimist, not a quitter, likable but with some dark secrets; exotic dancer; junkie; impulsive; has seen a lot in her few years; a survivor; moves extremely well. F#3 - E5 (Alto)
ANGEL SCHUNARD: Male, early late 20s, high pop tenor with falsetto; actor must be willing to play drag not just a diva; street musician with a heart of gold; fun with lots of style; supremely empathic and loving. C3 - A4 (Tenor)
JOANNE JEFFERSON: Female, 20s mid 30s; Powerful R&B belt; wry humor and a sardonic wit; politically connected; probably a Harvard graduate; a lawyer with spunk; very smart and mature; in love with Maureen. Bb3 - E5 (Alto)
ENSEMBLE ROLES: Male and Female, all ethnicities, early to late 20s, great singers who move well. Each actor in the ensemble will play a variety of supporting roles.
